(Featuring the Void, the Liminal, and the Sacred In-Between)
There’s a story we love about transformation:
the caterpillar enters the cocoon, dissolves, and emerges as a butterfly — winged, certain, complete.
But here’s the part that gets left out:
Some cocoons never open.
Not because the creature inside is unworthy, but because transformation requires participation.
It requires surrender.
It requires choosing the unknown over the familiar.
It requires stepping into the void — that quiet, disorienting, in-between space where the old self has already dissolved and the new self has not yet taken form.
Most people avoid the void.
They cling to the walls of the cocoon.
They hold onto old identities, old patterns, old pain —
because even suffering feels safer than uncertainty.
And that is why not all cocoons open.
The Void Is Not Punishment — It’s Passage
The void is the spiritual hallway between who you were and who you’re becoming.
Nothing feels stable there:
- your old coping strategies stop working
- your dreams feel scrambled
- your energy is inconsistent
- your emotions feel raw or loud
- and the future is foggy
This is liminality — the space where the universe unhooks old attachments before the new can anchor.
It is uncomfortable, yes.
But it is sacred.
Because in the void, something remarkable happens:
the truth begins to reveal itself.
What fits.
What doesn’t.
What is yours.
What is not.
Who is walking with you.
Who is walking in circles.
Who only grows when it’s convenient.
Who refuses to grow at all.
The void is a sorting ground.
A purification.
A reckoning and a rebirth in the same breath.
You Are Not Responsible for Someone Who Refuses Their Own Becoming
Some people see the void and retreat.
Some numb.
Some cling.
Some blame.
Some stagnate.
And you cannot make someone choose growth.
You cannot open their cocoon from the outside.
Even if you love them.
Even if you see their potential.
Even if you know they are capable of flight.
This is the hardest truth:
You cannot do someone else’s transformation for them.
Their liminal space belongs to them.
Their shadows belong to them.
Their courage must come from them.
Your job is to honor your own becoming.
Your own clarity.
Your own choice to evolve.
Transformation Is a Choice Made in the Dark
Growth doesn’t happen when the butterfly emerges.
It happens in the void.
In the dissolution.
In the surrender.
In the nights you feel like you are unraveling.
In the uncomfortable truths about what must be released.
In the courage to sit with your own heart without running.
When people say “trust the process,”
they are really saying:
trust the space where nothing makes sense yet.
Transformation is not destiny — it is a decision.
A decision to let the old self die with grace.
A decision to meet yourself in the liminal.
A decision to believe that you are being rewritten into something truer.
Your Wings Come From the Work No One Sees
If you are in the void right now, you are not lost.
You are not behind.
You are not broken.
You are becoming.
Your nervous system is recalibrating.
Your intuition is sharpening.
Your identity is shifting.
Your boundaries are strengthening.
Your future self is taking shape in subtle ways.
This is the metamorphosis.
And when you step out of this cocoon,
you won’t just be transformed —
you will be aligned.
Some cocoons don’t open.
But yours will.
Because you are choosing the work most people avoid.
You are choosing truth over comfort.
You are choosing evolution over ego.
You are choosing your becoming over your fear.
And that choice is what makes you unstoppable.
